Using AI for Detecting Driver Alertness

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that in the US alone approximately 100,000 crashes and 800 deaths each year are caused primarily by driver drowsiness or fatigue


After long hours of driving or in absence of a mental alert state, the attention of the driver starts to lose and that creates risks of accidents. Driving in a drowsy state is more dangerous than driving in an inebriated condition. It is now imperative for the driving support systems to also aid with detecting driver’s consciousness, to prevent the growing number of accidents caused due to drowsy driving. ZASTI built an AI powered Driver Alert system which can monitor the facial features of the driver in real time and identify if he/she is distracted or in a drowsy state to prevent accidents.
